A Daily Lift – December 16, 2020

Good Morning,

I hope that you are doing well!

Today is our last Daily Lift before the Winter Break; I will be off next Wednesday.

Our “lifts” for today:

From Jennifer Sheffield (CIS)

The Mendelssohn Club of Philadelphia is having a video release/trivia/carol singing/ silent auction fundraiser, tonight, Wednesday, December 16, 7:30-9:30 pm.

“Our latest Virtual Chorus release is the premiere of new commission “A Slice of Pie” by Melissa Dunphy and Feminista Jones — illustrated with pie videos!  (At least, we sent in pie videos along with our recordings.)”

Attendance is free; registration is required.

A song written and recorded by Jennifer:

“Many Thanks,” a song of thanks from many lands.  Updated and recorded in dedication to the essential workers of this pandemic.

Watch the Rexburg Children’s Choir (Idaho) as they sing “For Unto Us a Child is Born.” “This video was filmed using green screen technology. Every singer was filmed individually against a green screen and then, using the power of video editing, all singers were ‘placed’ to appear as if they were singing together on the same stage”

On Monday, December 21st, coinciding with the winter solstice, Jupiter and Saturn will be so close (0.1 degrees apart) that they will appear to form a “double planet.” The great “conjunction” or “Christmas Star” hasn’t occurred since medieval times (1226), nearly 800 years ago. NASA says, “it will be shining bright shortly after sunset, low in the southwestern sky, as viewed from the Northern hemisphere.”

Marvel Comics honors healthcare workers who are on the front lines with “The Vitals: True Nurse Stories.”. “The comic book “tells tales of some real heroes, the Nurses, as they work in high risk environments in order to care for those in need.”
